“How I Work” is one of my favorite recurring features in Inc Magazine as well as via Lifehacker’s This Is How I Work Series, and recently several sales experts (including  Anthony IannarinoDave Brock and Trish Bertuzzi) participated as well.

Periodically moving forward, we will feature a new B2B sales, marketing or business leader here answering what have become the standard “How I Work” questions.  You can catch up on everyone we’ve featured thus far in the “How I Work” series here.

This week I’m pleased to feature the CEO of Gong.io, Amit Bendov.

Amit Bendov co-founded Gong in 2015. He brings more than 20 years of leadership experience in hyper-growth enterprise software startups managing product, marketing, and sales to global corporations in North America, Europe, and Asia Pacific.  Prior to founding Gong, Amit was CEO of SiSense, a business intelligence software provider in New York. Amit turned the company around, growing recurring revenue 100X in under three years, turning it into the fastest growing, hottest company in the business intelligence market.  Prior to SiSense, Amit held the role of Chief Marketing Officer for Panaya, a provider of cloud software for automating application upgrades.  Under his leadership, the company grew from zero to tens of millions of dollars in sales in only four years. Amit began his career as a founding member, Senior VP, and GM of North America at ClickSoftware, a provider of enterprise mobile workforce management. Under his leadership, the company grew from zero sales to market leadership and IPO on Nasdaq.

Location:  San Francisco Bay Area

Current computers:  I am using a 15’’ MacBook Pro

Current mobile devices:  I carry 2 phones- iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s

What apps/software/tools can’t you live without?  Beyond the basics (email, spreadsheets) the top 3 would probably be LinkedIn- I use it several times a day, Waze for driving, and the United app for flying.
I also use a plain text editor for most of my writing- no formatting, no spell checkers, just focus on the content.

What’s your workspace like?  It couldn’t be more boring 🙂 There’s very little on my table, just a headset, and a screen, which I usually don’t even bother to connect, except when I am working on large spreadsheets.

What’s your best time-saving shortcut or lifehack?  I use my commute time (1:15) to get stuff done- job interviews, touch base with the team, listen to sales calls)

What everyday thing are you better at than anybody else?  I am probably not better at this than ANYBODY, but my forte setting an ambitious goal, building a detailed plan that lays out how to reach that goal, and then assembling a great team to reach that goal.

What’s your favorite to-do list manager?  It does not really matter to me. I use Google tasks.

What do you listen to while at work?  I cannot listen to music at work. I do use Gong.io to listen to sales and support calls. A lot of calls…

What are you currently reading?  That Old Cape Magic, by Richard Russo

What’s your sleep routine like?  I need very little sleep. I usually go to sleep at 1 am or even 2. Wake up at 6 AM

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?  I hate to say it, but there’s really no best advice- I got a lot, and they all helped in one way or another.  But if I have to pick one, is that you learn from success more than you can learn from failure.  There are many ways to fail, and there are much fewer ways to succeed. So I hire people who have a successful track record, and I am usually wary of people who celebrate past failures.

Fill in the Blank: I’d love to see Mark Organ answer these questions.
